Meet Sophie Miles - Your Dedicated Speech Therapist

Hi, I'm Sophie Miles, a licensed speech-language pathologist with over a decade of experience supporting children and families right here in Michigan.

My passion?

Helping your child find their unique voice and connect with the world around them with confidence.

My Journey & Why I Do What I Do

As a parent you know how valuable communication is for your child. Over the past decade I've been privileged to work with incredible kids from ages 1 to 18, helping them blossom and build those vital connections.

What truly guides my practice is the belief in listening to each child – really listening. That's why I'm trained in DIR Floortime, an approach that puts your child's interests and internal motivations at the heart of our therapy. It's about following their lead and using their natural curiosity to help them grow and reach their full potential.

My journey has taken me through diverse settings, from collaborative clinics working alongside music, occupational, physical therapists and behavior specialists, to specialized autism and complex needs schools in the UK . These experiences have shaped my understanding of the unique needs of each child and the power of a holistic approach.

I blend proven methods like DIR Floortime and SCERTS for social communication and PROMPT and the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol for motor speech skills. But it's not just about techniques – it's about creating a fun and engaging experience where your child feels truly seen and understood, and makes progress!

For children who need extra support with communication, I have extensive experience with AAC – things like communication boards and devices like TouchChat and ProLoQuo2Go. Finding the right way for every child to express themselves is something I'm deeply committed to.

Ultimately, I started Mindful Speech Therapy because I wanted to partner closely with families like yours, offering a whole-child approach that really makes a difference. You know your child best, and by working together, we can unlock their potential.
